Elevated road Sheila Dikshit's first poll sop - Times of India

NEW DELHI: At this year's first election rally at Aaya Nagar on Sunday, chief minister Sheila Dikshit looked all set to woo voters with promises of regularization and development.

The massive rally of 30,000 saw Dikshit making an "impromptu" promise to residents of Chhatarpur constituency of making an elevated road to connect Chattarpur with the Barapullah flyover at INA. Responding to a sudden demand of Chhatarpur MLA Balram Singh Tanwar, Dikshit said, "If you want an elevated road, you will get it. We will order a study."

"The existing Barapullah flyover runs from Sarai Kale Khan to Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. PWD has proposed extending it to Mayur Vihar from Sarai Kale Khan end and till INA from JLN Stadium end under study. If cleared, it will connect Chhatarpur directly with Mayur Vihar," Tanwar explained.

The rally was called by Tanwar to thank Dikshit and urban development minister Arvinder Singh for regularizing "24 out of 55" colonies of his constituency. The rally saw the leaders promise regularization of the r emaining 31 colonies, including those that falling under ridge and affluent areas.

Gearing up for the assembly elections, Dikshit is likely to attend three similar rallies next week. Ahead of Delhi budget session Dikshit is expected to attend a rally at Vikaspuri on February 26, at Bawana on March 2 and at Uttam Nagar on March 3. BJP has already held two huge rallies in Chhatarpur in past month that saw national leaders like Nitin Gadkari and Arun Jaitely.

At Sunday's rally, besides promises, Dikshit also reminded people of the development work done by her government in the last 14 years. " We have brought Metro for you, there are low floor buses, good quality schools, hospitals, flyovers and so many benefitting schemes like pension, Ladli Yojna, Annashree etc. this is all because we have made efforts to give the money that you gave us as taxes, back to you in form of schemes and development," said Dikshit.

It also saw Singh reminding people of how the Congress has always stood by the "aam aadmi". "Opposition tried to slam us on regularization saying we only promise but not deliver, But by regularizing over 900 colonies in last one year we have proved them wrong," he said.

While Dikshit and Singh did not make any direct reference to the upcoming elections, Tanwar did appeal to bring the Congress back to power for the fourth time. "To ensure progress, we must bring Sheila Dikshit back as our CM for the fourth time," he said.
