Ambani to foot the bill for CRPF security; Patil justifies cover - Indian Express

Describing him as a national asset, the Ministry of Home Affairs had sanctioned Z category security cover for Ambani and designated the CRPF for the job. The central force will be take over his security from April 25, officials said. Around 50 personnel from various units in Maharashtra have been deployed for Ambani's security. They will be provided accommodation by the protectee. "We have been asked by the MHA that Ambani needs to be protected, so we have made the arrangeme-nts," said Pranay Sahay, DG, CRPF. Ambani will reimburse around Rs 20 lakh per month to the central government for availing the VIP security cover from the CRPF. This is the first time that a central police force has been asked to extend security cover to a private person. Two months ago Ambani's office had received a threat letter from terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM). Under the Z category security, Ambani will have pilot and follow-on vehicles. They will give him proximate security every time he moves in Mumbai or any other part of country. Meanwhile, a Maharashtra minister justified the cover. Mumbai city-district guardian and rural development minister Jayant Patil of NCP said it was important for the state to protect its industrialists to create a conducive environment for business and investment. "While we provide security to politicians, it is also important to protect businessmen in the state. Considering the seriousness of the threat to Mukesh Ambani, the central government has taken the decision and it is justified."
