GDP to grow over 6% in FY14: Chidambaram - Zee News

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday said that India has achieved tax mop-up target for FY13 and that revenue target for FY14 is achievable.

Addressing the media at the Press Information Bureau, FM said, " Rs 10,38,037 crore tax target for 2012-13 achieved. It is commendable to reach the revenue target of 16.7 percent".

Talking about India's growth statistics for FY13-14 the finance minister said that GDP will grow by 6 percent.

On the recent government decision on partial decontrol of sugar, the FM said, "Sugar decontrol a major step which will benefit farmer and industry. It also means states have to make their own arrangements. Annual Subsidy bill will go up by Rs 2,500-2,600 crore as a result of sugar sector decontrol".

The finance minister is hopeful that sugar decontrol will lead to higher output.

"Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) rollout all over the country is likely to be completed by end of 2013-14," he said. FM will meet the oil minister soon to discuss direct cash transfer plans for LPG. He also said that opening bank account of digitised beneficiary is under way.

On the issue of long pending pension and insurance bill, he said that he is in touch with opposition leaders to sort out the hurdles.
