| NDTV | Reported By: Arijit Banerjee | Updated On: April 01, 2013 22:00 (IST) Bharti Airtel CMD Sunil Mittal has moved the Supreme Court seeking quashing of summons issued to him by the special CBI court hearing the 2G scam. The court has summoned Sunil Mittal along with Essar Group promoter Ravi Ruia and Asim Ghosh, former managing director of Hutchison Max (now Vodafone), in relation to a case where the CBI has alleged that additional spectrum was given to Bharti and Hutch during former telecom minister Pramod Mahajan's tenure in 2002. At that time BJP led National Democratic Alliance was running the government. The Special court in its order given on 19th March included the names of individuals like Sunil Mittal, Ravi Ruia and Asim Ghosh in its order even though the CBI charge sheet had only named the companies, Bharti and Hutch, along with Shyamal Ghosh the former telecom secretary in its charge sheet. Bharti had said at that time that while it was 'saddened' at the summons being issued, it will 'fight' the charges. Bharti has also claimed that the Central Bureau of Investigation, which was investigating the case, had not found any evidence of conspiracy against any individual, Bharti also stated in its defence that this same policy was not only used to give spectrum to government owned telecom companies but on several occasions the government itself had stated in Parliament that additional spectrum granted to all operators and related spectrum usage charges were as per policy. The Supreme Court is expected to hear the matter before 11th April , the day on which Sunil Mittal has to appear before the special CBI court. via Business - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNFGE5ZLFqSJ_Cz6alG5pWLPFB1K4Q&url=http://profit.ndtv.com/news/industries/article-sunil-mittal-approaches-supreme-court-320302 | |||
