| MALAPPURAM: Making it clear that all is not lost with regard to the proposed English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) campus at Malappuram, minister of state for Human Resources Development ShashiTharoor said on Saturday that issues that have been holding up the setting of the campus would be resolved soon. Speaking at a function in Malappuram town, the minister said that fund crunch is the major hurdle for the project and he will hold a discussion with officials of the finance ministry for availing adequate funds. There were reports that the varsity is planning to drop the proj ect for the Malappuram campus of Eflu. This was because students who applied for the admission to the first batch of the Malappuram campus, were informed by the university to take admissions at Eflu's main campus in Hyderabad. The first batch at Malappuram was scheduled to begin this academic year. There were also reports that political clash between Congress and IUML in the state has been delaying the project. But the minister's statement has confirmed that the university has not abandoned the project. However, uncertainty persists over the commencement of classes in Malappuram campus this year. The government has already handed over 75 acres to Eflu for starting the campus at Panakkad. Eflu authorities had also annnounced that they will start classes this academic year and that varsity vice-chancellor Sunaina Singh will visit Malappuram and finalize the location for temporary classes. But the VC yet to visit M alappuram. tnnThe authorities have identified more than five locations between Malappuram town and Vengara for the temporary campus, But they can finalize the location only after the VC's visit. Sunaina Singh had planned to visit Malappuram in February. But the visit was rescheduled for May. But it is learnt that she is unlikely to visit Malappuram soon.
