| As the date for its 4G rollout obligation draws closer, Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio), the 4G arm of Reliance Industries, may soon reveal its third deal with Reliance Communications (RCom). Sources said Jio is set to make a "big announcement" within the next couple of weeks, possibly an intra-city fibre deal with RCom. Should that come to pass, it would be the third in a series of proposed deals between RCom and Jio which have a long-term partnership for sharing each other's assets. Jio has already signed a Rs 1.2 crore deal to lease out 120,000 km of RCom's inter-city fibre. It has also signed a Rs 12,000 crore deal for lifetime lease of RCom's 45,000 tower sites. It is believed that the handover process and payment for the above two deals has already begun. The third deal for intra-city fibre is expected to be closed before Jio actually begins rolling out its 4G network. The soft launch of Jio's 4G in Delhi and Mumbai was expected by November-December this year, but this may be further delayed considering a host of rollout issues that Jio is facing. An analyst seeking anonymity said that talks with Samsung for 4G devices are said to have failed. Samsung was expected to be a key service provider assisting Jio's 4G rollout, but a very low price point being demanded by Jio may have stalled talks, he said. Jio is also believed to be in talks with several other handset players like Alcatel Lucent and ZTE, as well as with broadband and cable operators in India. An RIL spokesperson declined comment. via Business - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNGI-EmGeaCPI_PJcx5nZtcCFxJgmw&url=http://www.dnaindia.com/money/1858453/report-jio-rcom-deal-hat-trick-nigh | |||
