| COIMBATORE: General insurance claims arising out of the devastating floods in Uttarakhand are estimated to be around Rs 3,000 crore, a top industry official has said. United India Insurance Company alone has an exposure of Rs 500 crore in the state, its chairman-cum-managing director Milind Kharat said on Saturday. "We have substantial exposure in Uttarakhand. We are eager to settle the losses," he said. While the company has received 37 claims so far, surveyors have still not been able to reach damaged sites, Kharat said. The claims were mainly from hydel power projects, which suffered substantial losses, he said. Though only four claims were from these projects, there has been a significant loss to plant, machinery and buildings. Other claims pertained to property and vehicle damages. The general managers of the four public sector general insurance companies—United India Insurance, New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance and National Insurance—would meet in Dehradun next week to devise a strategy for early settlement of claims, Kharat said. "We do expect more claims," he said. Kharat, however, said that it is not clear whether temples in the region had taken any insurance cover. United India provides insurance cover for most of the leading temples in the country including Tirupati, Shirdi, Guruvayoor and Sabarimala. The insurance not only covers temple property but also pilgrims visiting the shrines, Kharat said. via Business - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNFmAcnIhmPMkCJHJoRdBOo1f6c04g&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Uttarakhand-insurance-claims-estimated-at-Rs-3000-crore/articleshow/20949873.cms | |||
