Marginal hike in petrol, diesel prices - Times of India

NEW DELHI: State-run fuel retailers on Friday decided to raise prices of diesel by 10 paise a litre and petrol by 41 paise per litre, excluding state taxes, due to increase in dealer margins and a slight weakening of the rupee in the preceding fortnight.

The oil ministry raised dealer margin on diesel by 10 paise a litre which the companies are passing on to consumers. Similarly, commission on petrol was also raised by 21 paise per litre, which too was passed on.

In addition, the retailers also raised the price of petrol by another 20 paise a litre on account of slight weakening of the rupee in the preceding fortnight.

The government has "decided to revise the dealer's commission on diesel from Rs 1,089 per kilolitre (or 1.089 per litre) to Rs 1,186 per kl for the entire country with immediate effect," according to an official statement.

Dealer commissions are supposed to be revised annually to keep pace with the rising costs of petrol pump owners. The ministry recently revised the dealer commission for cooking gas cylinders by Rs 3.46 per cylinder.
