Rupee slips marginally to 63.18 per dollar ahead of RBI policy

Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Tuesday was little changed against the US dollar after opening a tad

Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Tuesday was trading little changed against the dollar after opening a tad weaker ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) quarterly review of the monetary policy. The central bank is scheduled to release policy at 11am.

The partially convertible rupee opened at 63.18 per dollar from its Monday's close of 63.10 a dollar.

RBI may keep benchmark repurchase rate unchanged at 7.75%, according to 42 of 45 economists in a Bloomberg survey, with the remaining three predicting a 25 bps increase to 8%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency's strength against major currencies, was trading at 80.47, down 0.07% from its previous close of 80.52.

Yields on the 10-year bond was at 8.75%, flat from its Monday's close of 8.76%.

At 9.09am, the domestic currency was currently trading at 63.09 per dollar, up 0.01%. India's equity benchmark BSE Sensex was trading at 20,721.17 points, up 0.07%.
