Phaneesh Murthy, Francisco D'Souza among potential successors to Shibulal as ... - Economic Times

Infosys on Monday said it has started a search for its chief executive SD Shibulal's successor and appointed search firms Egon Zehnder and Development Dimensions International to assist in identifying both external and internal candidates.

The announcement comes four months after Infosys, India's second largest software exporter, elevated senior Vice Presidents BG Srinivas and UB Pravin Rao as Presidents. While both Srinivas and Rao are being considered for the top job, ET brings you a list of internal as well as external candidates based on conversations with Infosys insiders and heads of executive search firms:

INTERNAL CANDIDATES:

1) Sandeep Dadlani

Designation: Senior Vice President and Global Head of retail, CPG & logistics, Infosys.

Experience at Infosys: 13 years

Dadlani heads a business unit of approximately $1.3 billion sales and 15000 employees for Infosys globally. Based in the United States, the former finance graduate from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai joined Infosys in 2001 from Citigroup. Between 2001 and 2010, Dadlani was a vice president managing client Services and marketing for the retail vertical, after which he was promoted as a senior vice president.

Industry insiders say Dadlani's experience IT consulting and business development in the US makes me a strong contender for the CEO job. But his lack of experience in other large markets such as the Europe and Asia, and verticals such as financial services and manufacturing is a weakness.

2) Sanjay Jalona

Designation: Senior Vice President and Global Head of hi-tech and manufacturing vertical and engineering services

Experience at Infosys: 14 years

When Infosys board member and global manufacturing head Ashok Vemuri resigned in August last year to join rival software provider iGate Corp, he was quickly replaced by Sanjay Jalona, then regional head for manufacturing in North America. His strengths include client-facing and IT services experience in India as well as Europe, where he established and scaled Infosys's operations.

A 1990 engineering graduate from the Birla Institute of Science and Technology in Pilani, Jalona is currently responsible for over 23% of Infosys's $7.4 billion (Rs 42,900 crore) revenues of Infosys. Industry insiders say Jalona's lack of experience in managing a business unit globally- a role he took up only last year, could be a concern for Infosys nominations committee.

3) Ravi Kumar.S

Designation: Senior Vice President and Global Head, insurance, cards and payments

Experience at Infosys: 12 years

Ravi Kumar is seen in the media less often than other senior executive of the company, but the 44-year old executive manages one of the more critical business units - insurance - for Infosys. Based in Hyderabad, he used to manage global consulting and systems integration practice worth $700 million for Infosys manufacturing business and heads Infosys Hyderabad development center that houses over 20,000 employees.

While his expertise in management as well as technology consulting is considered to be his biggest strength, absence of experience in large markets such as North America and Europe is a weakness.
