The 'Akshaya Tritiya 24ct Gold Medallion Sale' is a display cum sale of gold and silver medallions by the Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India (MMTC).
"The unique selling points of MMTC coins are its purity and reliability," says R K Arvind, additional general manager. "The private sector may lie to customers about the weight and quality of gold, but we don't. Our aim is to serve the customers' needs in gold and silver."
These medallions come in tamper-proof laminated packaging with purity certification."It is the trust that customers have in the company that inspired us to hold a sale in Kochi on such an auspicious occasion," he says. In Hindu mythology, Akshaya Tritya is a meaningful day to start a new venture or purchase a new item. It is a usual practice to buy gold on this occasion. However, the trend in purchasing gold medallions in Kerala on Akshaya Tritiya is very recent - not more than five years old.
"It is common for private firms to lure customers with their low prices, especially during Akshaya Tritiya," said Arvind. But, when told that the pricing is high, Arvind downplayed the notion.
"I admit that our prices may be slightly higher than our competitors, but the purity of our gold is undisputed," said Aravind.
"The higher pricing is to inculcate the practice of buying pure gold among the common man from government agencies, which is a good investment and financial protection in the long run."
The sale is being held at the YMCA, Chittoor Road, Naval Base Kochi, and FACT Campus, Udyogamandal from April 30 to May 3 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
