Sensex crashes by 437.28 pts during week - Web India

The equity market lost ground by 437.28 pointsor 1.51 per cent to settle at 28,442.10 during the week endedyesterday as worries mounted that Greece's debt troubles couldtrigger an exit for the country from the eurozone and possiblyfinancial contagion. The recent rise in global crude oil prices also weighed onsentiment. . The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) dropped by 174.35points or 1.98 per cent at 8,606. The recent rise in global crude oil prices will raise concernspertaining to India's fiscal deficit, current account deficit andfuel price inflation. The BSE Mid-Cap index shed 2.89 pc. The BSE Small-Cap index lost1.89 pc.

The Sensex fell below the psychological 29,000 mark afterregaining that mark at the start of the week. Key indices fell in three out of four sessions of the week. The BSE Sensex advanced by 165.06 points to touch 29K level to29,044.44 as buying was witnessed across the board. On Tuesday, the stock market was shut for Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti. From Wednesday it remained negative till the end of the week.The Sensex slid by 244.75 points at 28,799.69. Pharma, telecom andrealty stocks led losses for key benchmark indices on Wednesday. Pharma and cement stocks led losses as key benchmark indicesedged lower for the second straight trading session on Thursday as the Sensex fell by 133.65 points at 28,666.04. After disappointing Q4 result from IT major TCS, the Sensexslumped by 223.94 points at 28,442.10, on Friday. From the 30-share Sensex pack, 18 stocks fell and 11 rose whileone remained unchanged.MORE UNI NV SM1110
