Coal scam: Fresh case against Delhi-based firm - Daily News & Analysis

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), looking into the coal scam has filed a case against a company for allegedly misrepresenting facts to get a mining licence in Chhattisgarh. This is 11th first information report in the coal scam probe by the CBI. The case has been filed against Pushp Steels Private Limited and its directors Atul Jain and Sanjay Jain. CBI officials on Saturday searched the company's offices in Raipur, Narwana in Haryana and Delhi. The company was allocated a coal block in Chhattisgarh but is reportedly yet to start mining activities there. "The CBI has registered a case against Delhi-based Pushp Steels & Mining Private Limited Company, its two directors and some unidentified public servants in connection with the allegations related to getting Brahmapuri coal blocks allocated on the basis of misrepresentations and false claims in the applications, presentations and connivance/lack of due diligence on part of unknown others," CBI official said. It was alleged that the company was recommended the allocation of Brahmapuri coal block by the screening committee for its proposed sponge iron end use project in Durg district in Chattisgarh. "This coal block was allocated on the basis of false information that it had a iron ore mining lease while it had none. And the company did not have any experience in steel manufacturing and the networth of the group companies/firms was around Rs.3.01 crores (approximately), which was insignificant," the CBI official added. Subsequently after lodging a case, the CBI carried out nationwide raids at 10 places in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Narwana and Raipur at various officials and residential premises of accused company and its directors.
