| BT Online Bureau Mumbai Last Updated: April 23, 2013 | 00:00 IST The Indian rupee on Tuesday lost 21 paise to Rs 54.35 against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to appreciation of the American currency against euro overseas. Increased demand for the dollar from importers also put pressure on the domestic currency. The rupee had closed 18 paise lower at Rs 54.14 a dollar in Monday's trade on fresh demand for the US currency. Dealers attributed the rupee's fall in morning trade to dollar gains against the euro overseas but a higher opening in the domestic stock market capped the fall. The BSE Sensex opened 40.43 points higher at 19,210.26, but soon pared all the gains to trade at 19,118.28, down 51.55 points or 0.27 per cent at 10.12 am.
