US Senate passes landmark Bill on undocumented immigrants

Landmark immigrant legislation has passed through the Senate in the US which will give almost 11 million undocumented people living in America the chance to apply for citizenship.

The Bill passed last night by a vote of 68 to 32, and will now need to go through the House of Representatives before being enacted.

The reform means that the 50,000 illegal Irish people living in America have been given the hope of being able to apply to remain in the country legally.

It requires immigrants to pass background checks, pay fees, fines and back taxes, learn English, and gain employment.
