Arundhati Bhattacharya gets shortlisted for State Bank of India chairman's post - Economic Times

NEW DELHI: State Bank of India, the country's largest bank, may soon get its first woman chairman with Arundhati Bhattacharya having been shortlisted for the post, according to two senior government officials.

Currently one of the bank's four managing directors, Bhattacharya's name will soon be forwarded to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

"She is first choice of the selection committee. The process for seeking vigilance clearances will follow soon," said a senior government official.

Interviews for the post were held last week. Current SBI chairman Pratip Chaudhuri will retire at the end of this month.

The selection committee comprised Raghuram Rajan, financial services secretary Rajiv Takru, former Bank of Baroda chairman M.D. Mallya, dean of the Indian School of Business Ajeet Rangnekar and Debashis Chatterjee, director of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode.

A career banker with 36 years of experience, Bhattacharya has been managing director and CEO of SBI Capital Markets, SBI's investment banking arm.

The selection committee had called SBI's four managing directors for interviews after an ACC recommendation following a relaxation in the norms.
