MUMBAI: The rupee continued to rule firm for the third consecutive day on Wednesday by gaining another 9 paise to 61.86 per dollar on sustained selling of the US currency by banks and exporters in view of strong foreign capital inflows.
Weakness of dollar in the overseas market also boosted the rupee value, a forex dealer said.
The rupee resumed higher at 61.84 per dollar as against the last closing level of 61.95 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market. It improved further to 61.82 before quoting at 61.86 per dollar at 1045 hours.
The domestic currency hovered in a range of 61.82-61.90 per dollar during the late morning deals.The rupee had gained 9 paise to close at one-week high of 61.95 against the dollar yesterday.
In New York, the dollar tipped lower yesterday in holiday-thinned trade, with some investors looking ahead a day to a report on durable goods.
Meanwhile, the benchmark sensex moved down by 8.81 points or 0.04% to 21,092.22 at 1045hrs.
