Bullish trend was witnessed on the currency market on Tuesday as the rupee posted fresh gains against the dollar and euro, dealers said. The rupee appreciated by 20-paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 107.05 and Rs 107.10 respectively, they added.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee gained further against the greenback, picking up 10-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 106.60 and Rs 106.80 respectively, while it managed to give up persisted weakness versus the euro, rising 50-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 146.50 and Rs 146.75, they said.
In the second Asian trade, the euro held the upper hand after surprisingly strong euro zone manufacturing data, while uncertainty over when the Federal Reserve would start to trim its economic stimulus programme kept the dollar on the defensive.
The euro traded at $1.3762 , maintaining its slim gains on Monday and not far from a two-year high of $1.3811 reached last week. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 62.02, the greenback was at 3.2390 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.071 in relation to the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee remained unchanged on buying side at Rs 106.50 while it shed five-paisa on selling side at Rs 106.80 against the US dollar on the local currency market on Tuesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 106.50 and Rs 106.75 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. The dollar did not observe any change in its buying rate. However, because of marginal improvement in demand, the dollar's rate was moved up to Rs 106.80, the dealers said.
On the contrary, the rupee failed to maintain upward trend and was declined against the British pound. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 173.75 and Rs 174.00, compared with Monday closing of Rs 173.50 and Rs 173.75, respectively, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 106 for buying and Rs 106.20 for selling against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 106 for buying and Rs 106.20 for selling.
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 174 for buying and Rs 174.50 for selling against same last rate. It closed at the same rate without further change by the end of evening session.
