Sensex back in green; realty, metals, auto lead - Economic Times

MUMBAI: The S&P BSE Sensex pared intraday losses and bounced back in the positive terrain as value buying emerged above 20,000 level. Analysts continue to maintain that once the demand for stocks is over near support levels, the market will begin to slide in absence of buying support from foreign institutional investors.

At 10:45 p.m.; the 30-share index was at 20,233.26, up 21.33 points or 0.11 per cent. It touched a high of 20,254.82 and a low of 20,076.10 in trade today.

The Nifty was at 6,010, up 9.10 points or 0.15 per cent. It touched a high of 6,016.75 and a low of 5,962.05 in trade today.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.32 per cent and the S&P BSE Smallcap Index was 0.93 per cent higher.

The S&P BSE Realty Index was up 1.62 per cent, the S&P BSE Metal Index was up 1.11 per cent and the S&P BSE Auto Index gained 1.69 per cent.

The S&P BSE FMCG Index was down 0.91 per cent and the S&P BSE Oil & gas Index was 0.24 per cent lower.

ITC (1.78 per cent), Maruti (0.72 per cent), Bharti Airtel (0.70 per cent), Sesa Sterlite (0.62 per cent) and Reliance Industries (0.57 per cent) were among the major Sensex losers.

Tata Steel (up 3.38 per cent), Tata Motors (up 3.30 per cent), GAIL (up 2.52 per cent), Coal India (up 2.33 per cent) and M&M (up 2.28 per cent) were among the index gainers.

The market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1,343 gainers against 1,013 losers.

The foreign institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 1,234.02 crore while domestic institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 864.55 crore on Wednesday as per the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Meanwhile, the European markets have opened on e a subdued note. The FTSE 100 was down 0.28 per cent, the CAC 40 was 0.08 per cent lower and the DAX slipped 0.27 per cent.
