Nokia, Microsoft to seal deal in April
Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia and software giant Microsoft are on course to finalize their deal in April despite some tax issues between Indian government and Nokia over the latter's plant at Chennai.
Last month, it was reported that the two companies had decided to ink the deal in March but it did not happen due to several issues. Nokia has received 300 million Euro tax bill from Indian government accusing the company of distributed the handsets that were manufactured at the company's Chennai, Tamil Nadu, within India after earlier claiming that they will be exported.
For its part, Nokia has rejected the allegation but the case will not be resolved in the near future.
Microsoft announced in September 2013 that it was ready to buy Nokia?s phone business for $7.2 billion but the two companies are yet to give a final shape to the deal due to several issues.
In the meantime, Nokia and Microsoft released a joint statement focused on consumers. "Nokia currently expects to complete the sale of its Devices & Services business to Microsoft in April 2014", it said.
"Microsoft cares deeply about your privacy and the protection of your personal data and will continue to collect and use your personal data in the same ways and for the same reasons as Nokia, and you should experience no difference as a result of the sale", Nokia and Microsoft officials said in the press release addressed to the company's consumers.
