HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday announced that it will allocate 592 acres in Chittoor district to Hero MotoCorp, which is planning to set up a greenfield two-wheeler manufacturing facility at an investment of Rs 1,600 crore in a phased manner.

"In a meeting, AP chief secretary IYR Krishna Rao discussed and clarified issues on the land allotted to Hero MotoCorp Ltd with representatives of the company. In a recent cabinet meeting held on March 20, the state government had discussed its new industrial policy and took a decision of allotting 592 acres land to Hero MotoCorp," the AP government said in a statement.

"In a peaceful environment, the Hero MotoCorp may start their plant at the allotted site," Rao said, adding that APIIC was already in possession of the land.

In an MoU signed in September last year, the government had agreed to allot 600 acres at Madannapalem village in Statyavedu mandal of Chittoor district to the company

Meanwhile, Japanese auto major Isuzu said it will commence operations at its Sri City plant by April 2016. Isuzu India managing director Takashi Kikuchi met AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday to update him on the company's progress with the upcoming facility in Sri City. Isuzu will manufacture pickup trucks at its Sri City facility and will be pumping Rs 1,500 crore into the project.

During the meeting, Kikuchi informed the CM that nearly 75 suppliers are keen to invest in Andhra Pradesh. "We will require the government to drive ancillary industries too," he added. Responding to the request, Naidu said his government will come up with a policy for ancillary industries in its next cabinet meeting and will also identify clusters within Sri City and in other areas of the state where ancillary industries can be set up.

The CM also told the Isuzu executives that he wanted to make the Nellore-Chennai-Tirupati belt an automobile hub on the lines of the Tokyo-Kawasaki-Yokohama trio cities in Japan.
