Tracking the momentum, the 50-share Nifty index also managed to rally over 90 points, supported by gains in capital goods, FMCG, pharma and realty stocks.

The 30-share index was at 27663.62, up 205 points or 0.75 per cent. It touched a high of 27,690.87 and a low of 27,635.94 in trade today.
The Nifty was at 8401 up 59 point or 0.71 per cent. It touched a high of 8405.05 and a low of 8390.25 in trade today.
The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 1.02 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index edged higher by 1.43 per cent.
HDFC (up 1.9 per cent), M&M (up 1.6 per cent), Bharti Airtel (up 1.63 per cent), ITC (up 1.4 per cent) and SBI (up 1.2 per cent) were among the major Sensex gainers.
Tata Power (down 0.93 per cent), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (down 0.89 per cent), Hindalco Industries (down 0.52 per cent), Bajaj Auto (down 0.35 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki (down 0.30 per cent) were the major index losers.
